A long-standing commitment to the care of Third Culture Kids and globally mobile families

Amber

Amber Maxwell, MA, LPC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a deep commitment to serving individuals and families whose lives have been shaped by cross-cultural living and transition. As an adult Third Culture Kid myself, I am especially passionate about working with TCK's and ATCK's, missionary families, and globally mobile individuals navigating grief, identify, trauma, and emotional pain.

My Story

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree in Counseling from Crown College and a bachelor’s degree in Education from Emmanuel University. My clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed care and includes EMDR therapy, attachment-informed approaches, CBT interventions, and strengths-based counseling.

Before entering clinical practice, I spent over a decade serving Third Culture Kids and missionary families through boarding ministry, mentoring, and cross-cultural leadership in international school settings. These experiences continue to shape the way I understand grief, identity, belonging, and resilience in globally mobile lives.

I remain actively connected to the TCK community through a part-time role as an Unstacking Coach with TCK Training, where I support adults and adolescents processing the layered impact of cross-cultural childhoods. I also serve on volunteer committees with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, contributing to efforts that prioritize emotional and physical safety, mental health, and care for international workers and their families.

In addition to Willow Hearth Counseling, I currently work at a counseling center in Royston, Georgia, providing mental health care to children, adolescents, and adults within a small-town community. I am also a wife and a mother of three TCK boys,  which continues to shape my understanding of family life, attachment, and the complexity of caring for children across developmental stages.

Whether working with cross-cultural or local clients, my goal is to use my training and background to help others heal and grow.
